Verse: 89 - Imam's (as) greater than Ulul-Azm Prophets (as)

Verse: 89

"And on the day when We will raise up in every people a witness against them from among themselves, and bring you as a witness against these - and We have revealed the Book to you explaining clearly everything , a Guide, a Mercy, and Glad Tidings to Muslims." [16:89]

It has been narrated to us Muhammad Bin Ismail, from Muhammad Bin Amro Al-Ziyaat, from Abdullah Bin Al-Waleed who said:

Abu Abdullah (as) said to me: "What are the statements that (some of) ours followers say regarding Isa (as), and Musa (as) and Amir-ul-Momineen (as)?"

I said, "They are sayin that Isa (as) and Musa (as) are of higher (status) than Amir-ul-Momineen (as)".

He (as) said, "Do they not think that Amir-ul-Momineen (as) knew what was known to the Messenger of Allah (saww)?"

I said, "Yes, and I told them that Ali knew whatever the Prophet knew but they say that He (as) was not higher than any of the ‘Ul Ul Azm’ Prophets (as)."

Abu Abdullah (as) said, "Debate with them by the Book of Allah (swt)."

I said, "And in which subject from it should I debate with them?"

He (as) said, "Allah(swt) the High said to Musa (as),
"And We Wrote for him in the Tablets everything from the knowledge" [7:145]. Allah (swt) did not Write for Musa (as) all things.

And Allah (swt) Blessed and High Said for Isa (as), "And that I may make clear to you part of what you differ in" [43:63].

And Said for Muhammad (saww), "And on the day when We will raise up in every people a witness against them from among themselves, and bring you as a witness against these - and We have revealed the Book to you explaining clearly everything" [16:89].

In the above source there are 6 narrations with the same meaning (Matn). I am quoting another narration here.

It has been narrated to us Ali Bin Muhammad Bin Sa’d, from Umraan Bin Suleyman Al-Neyshapury, from Abdullah Bin Muhammad Al-Yamani, from Manba’a Bin Al-Hajaaj, from Yunus, from Al-Husayn Bin Alwaan who has said the following:

Abu Abdullah (as) said, "Allah (swt) Created the ‘Ul Ul Azm’ Prophets (as) from the Messengers (as) (and distinguished them) by the knowledge, and We (as) inherited their knowledge, and Preferred Us (as) over them in their knowledge, and the knowledge of the Messenger of Allah (saww) is what they did not know, and Taught Us (as) the knowledge of the Messenger and their knowledge and (knowledge of) Trustees (as). Our (as) Shiites are higher in status than their Shiites, for Our (as) Shiites are with Us (as)."
