Hadith 1:

My father, related to us from Ali bin Ibrahim from his father from Ali bin Mabad from al-Hussein bin Khalid that;

Abu al-Hasan ar-Ridha (as) said, "Our (true) Shia are those who submit to our orders, take hold of (accept) our Sayings, and oppose (dont harmonize with) our enemies. He who does not have such characteristics is not one from us."

Hadith 2:

Imam Mohammad Baqir (asws) said,

"None of you can reach the true status of believe until he has three characteristics:

1) Death is more beloved to him than life.

2) Poverty is more beloved to him than wealth.

3) Illness is more beloved to him than good health.

The narrator then said, "Who has these characteristics?"

The Imam (asws) replied, "All of You."

The Imam (asws) continued saying, "What is more beloved to you, to die with Our Love or to live with our hatred?"

The narrator replied, "By Allah (swt), To die with your love is more beloved to us."

The Imam (asws) then said, "Similar is the case in regards to poverty/wealthy and illness/good health."

The narrator then said, "Yes, By Allah (swt).

Ali bin Ahmed bin Abdullah narrated to us from his father from his grandfather from Ahmed bin Abi Abdullah al-Barqi from his father from Amr bin Shemr from Abdullah;

Imam as-Sadiq (as) said, "He who believes in seven things is (regarded as) believer,  "Baraat (disavowal) from the Jibt and Taghut [Abu Bakr and Umar are referred to Jibt and Taghut], the declaration of the Wilayah (of the Imams), the belief of rajaah (return) the legality of the temporary marriage (Mutah), the illegality of the (flesh of) eel, and the illegality of passing the (wet) hands over the slippers (during the ritual ablutions).

Narrated from Umar bin Abdul Azeez, from Abi Dawood al-Haddad, from Moosa bin Bakr who said:

"We were with Abi Abdillah Imam Sadiq (as), when a person in the gathering said, "I ask Allah (swt) for Heaven". Imam Sadiq (as) said, "You are already in Heaven. Ask Allah (swt) that He does not remove you from it."

We asked the Imam (as), "May we be sacrificed for You. We are in this world now."

Imam (as) said, "Don't you acknowledge/accept Our Imamat?" They said, "Yes". Imam (as) said, "This is the meaning of heaven. The one who accepts our Imamat is in Heaven, so ask Allah (swt) that He does not take it away from you.

Hadith 7:

Don't call Shia's who commit sins as Fasiq (sinner) Fajir (Immoral)!!

Zaid said, I said to Abu al-Hasan Imam Moosa Kazim (asws), “A man from among those who love/follow You drinks wine and commits Sins, should be disprove/reject (do tabarra) him?

Imam (asws) replied, "Disprove/reject his action and do not disprove/reject him, love him and hate his (wrong) action.

I (the narrator said), "Is it permitted for us that we call him 'Fasiq and Fajir' (sinner and immoral)?"

Imam (asws) said, "No, the Fasiq and Fair and Kafir (sinner, immoral and disbeliever) is the one who denies Us and has enmity (Nasibi) with those who befriend/follow/love Us. Allah (swt) has not allowed for our friends to be Fasiq-Fajir whatever acts he does.

But you say he is Fasiq in actions and Fajir in actions and a believer in his self (Nafs), of evil actions but good soul and body.

Hadith 8:

Imam al-Ridha (as) narrated from His Father Imam Moosa bin Jafar (as) who said:

Imam Sadiq (as) wrote a letter to some people saying:

"If you wish your deeds to have a good ending - so that when you die you are in the best of deeds, then:

Exalt (consider very huge) Allah’s (swt) right such that you do not use His Blessings in disobeying Him, and do not be deceived by the gentleness of Allah (swt) towards you.

Honor all those whom you find remembering (who refer to/speak about) us or claims to love Us. Thereafter there will be no responsibility upon you, whether it was true or it was a lie. You will benefit from your intentions, and they will be responsible for their lies.

Hadith 9:

Imam Mohammad Baqir (as) said that Amir al-Momineen (as) said,

"Our Shia are, Over-generous (granting) with each other in matters of (due to) our Wilayah, Love each other in matters of (due to) our Love, visiting each other reviving our matters, those when they are angry are not oppressive, and if they are pleased, they are not being extravagant (wasting/spending lavishly). They are a Blessing upon the ones who are their neighbors, a safety for the ones they are mixing with"

Hadith 10:

The intellect of a Muslim man will not be complete until he has ten qualities:

1. Goodness is expected & hoped from him.

2. People feel secure with regard to any harm from him.

3. Considers the small amount of goodness from others as many.

4. Considers his many goodness to be very less.

5. He does not detest(dislike) the needs asked from him to be fulfilled.

6. He does not get tired & bored from seeking knowledge for all the length of his life.

7. Poverty for the sake of Allah is more beloved to him than wealth.

8. Disgrace in the path of Allah is more beloved to him than the honor in the path of His enemies.

9. Being unknown is more liked by him than being famous.

10. He does not see a person but that he says 'He is better & more pious than me.

Hadith 11:

Muhammad bin al-Hasan said, I wrote to Imam Hasan ibn Ali al-Askar (as) complaining about poverty.

I (the narrator) then said to myself, "Has not Aba Abdillah (as) said, that poverty while being with Us is better than wealth while being with our enemies and being killed along with Us is better than having a life along with our enemies"

The reply came from Imam Hasan Askar (as), "Indeed Allah عز و جل bestows poverty upon Our friends when their sin's become many and surely Allah forgives many of the sins. And it's like what you said to yourself, that poverty while being with Us is better than wealth while being with our enemies. And we are a protective cave for those who take refuge with Us and Light for those who seek enlightenment from Us and Protection for those who seek Our Protection. The one who loves Us will be along with Us in the elevated places and the one who turns away from Us will incline to the fire."

Hadith 12:

Narrated from Abi Abdillah Imam Sadiq (as),

"We do not consider a person as a believer (Mo'min) unless he follows & adheres to all our commands (Amr). And from amongst following Our commands is being Pious/God Fearing/Abstaining from worldly matters (الورع), so adorn/beautify yourselves with it, may Allah (sw) have mercy upon you, and cause harm to your enemies through it (i.e. through Piety), Allah (azwj) will raise you."

Hadith 12:

Imam Sadiq (ع) said,

"May mercy of Allah be upon Our Shias, By Allah, Our Shias are the true believers. Indeed by Allah, they have been our partners in this calamity by sympathizing with Us throughout the long period of grief and sorrow"

Hadith 13:

Meaning of the words "Jazaka Allah Khair" translated as 'May Allah reward you Khair (good)':

Narrated by Maalik bin Aayan asked Imam Sadiq (ع) as to what is the meant by when one man says to another "Jazaka Allah Khair".

Imam Sadiq (ع) said, 'Khair' is a river in paradise that originates from al-Kawthar, and the Kawthar originates from the bottom of the throne (Arsh). Upon it (i.e Khair) are abodes/homes of the Trustees (Awsiya) and their Shias (followers).

On the two sides of that river, there are plants that sprout, and whenever one was uprooted, another one grows by the name of that river and regarding that is the saying of Allah (عز و جل) in His book, 'In them are goodly things, beautiful ones' (55:70)

So when one man says to another 'Jazaka Allah Khair', then by that it means that specific abodes/homes which Allah (عز و جل) has prepared for His elite/best & chosen ones from His creations."

Hadith 14:

2 Characteristics of the Shia:

Narrated by Abu Hamzah that Imam Ali ibn Husain (ع) said,

"I would love to sacrifice a portion (of the flesh) of my hand to free My followers (Shias) from 2 characteristics, being haste (reckless/careless) and lack of keeping secrets."

[Source: al-Khisal - Shaikh Sadooq, Pg. 44]

Hadith 15:

Believers don't seek help from enemies of the AhlulBayt (ع):

Narrated that Abu Jafar Imam Baqir (ع) said,

"O Jabir, do not ask for help from our enemy and do not ask for any food from our enemy and do not ask for water from our enemy. Because our enemy will (one day) be in hell and a Momin will be passing by him and then our enemy will say to him, "O Believer, did I not do so and so with you, so the believer will then feel embarrassed/ashamed and will seek the removal of Our enemy from the fire. Since a believer is named Momin because he relies upon Allah (عز وجل) and so he is reliable in his trusts.

Hadith 16:

17 things from Allah for those who accept Wilayah of Imam Ali (ع):

Narrated that Abu Jafar Imam Baqir (ع) said,

"Indeed relief, comfort, victory, support, success, blessings, honor, forgiveness, protection, ease, glad news, satisfaction, nearness, help, power, hope, and love from Allah (عز وجل) are for those who accept the Wilayah of Ali (ع) and follow Him, disavows (Baraat) the enemies of Ali (ع) and accept in submission the virtues of Ali (ع) and His successors after him.  Its an obligation upon Me to include them in My intercession (Shifaat) & Allah (تبارك و تعالى) has made it obligatory upon himself to accept my intercession for them since they are my followers and those who would follow me are from me."

Narrated that Abu al-Hasan Imam Rida (عليه السلام) said,

"He who is an enemy to Our Shia has shown enemity to Us, and whoever befriends them has befriended Us, because they are from Us, they are created from Our clay."

"Whoever loves them (i.e. the Shia) is from Us, and whoever hates them is not from Us."

"Our Shia see through the light of Allah and move about in the mercy of Allah, and will be successful by the honor of Allah."

"None of Our Shia gets sick but we become sick because of his illness, and We become grieved whenever any of Our Shia becomes grieved, and We feel happy whenever any of our Shia feels happy."

"And none of Our Shia are hidden from Us, whether they are in the east or west of the earth."

"And whoever of Our Shia leaves behind a debt, it is upon Us to repay, and whoever among them leaves money, it is for his heirs."

"Our Shia are those who establish Prayers (Salat) and give Zakat, perform Hajj of the Holy House and fast in the month of Ramadan and are loyal/followers of the AhlulBayt (عليهم السلام) and keep away from (Tabarra) their enemies. They are the people of belief/faith (eman) and staying away from sins (Wara) & people of piety (Taqwa)."

"Whoever rejects/disproves them has indeed rejected Allah and whoever defames/speaks evil of them has indeed defamed Allah (عز وجل) since they are the true servants of Allah and his true friends (awliya). And indeed, by Allah, one of them will intercede for as many people as in the tribes of Rabi'ah and Mudhar, and Allah (تعالى) will accept his intercession for them due to His honor for them."

Hadith 18:

Narrated that Abu al-Hasan Musa bin Jafar (عليه السلام) said,

"Our Shia will never be without four things:

A mat/rug to pray salat upon,

A ring to wear,

A Miswak (tooth cleaning stick) to clean with,

And a rosary (Tasbeeh) made from the clay of grave of Abu Abd-Allah Imam Husayn (عليه السلام), which has 33 beads. Whenever he turns it while reciting a Zikr of Allah, 40 goods deeds are written for him for each bead. And if he turns it being inattentive and absent minded (i.e. without any recitation), then 20 good deeds are written for him."

Hadith 19:

Narrated that Khaysamah came to Abu Jafar Imam Baqir (عليه السلام) to bid farewell.

Imam (عليه السلام) said to him, “O Khaysamah, convey our greetings to whoever of Our followers you may see and advise them:

To have piety (Taqwa) before Allah (العظيم),

And that their rich among them should look after (help) their poor,

And the strong among them should look after (help) their weaker ones,

And that the living among them should attend the funeral of their dead,

And that they must meet each other in their homes, for indeed their meeting each other gives life to Our affair/matter - May Allah bless the servant who enlivens Our matter.

O Khaysamah, convey to our followers that We do not benefit them from Allah with anything except through action/deeds, and that they will not attain Our Mastership (Wilayah) except by godliness/piety (wara), and that the most regretful of people on the Day of Judgement will be the one who described/praised justice and then opposed it.”

Hadith 20:

Narrated from Sama’at who said,

I came to Abu Abd-Allah Imam Sadiq (عليه السلام) and the Imam initiating the talk said to me,

“What was that between you and your camel man? Beware of being obscene or shouting or cursing/abusing (in your speech).”

I (the narrator) said, “That was because he wronged me.”

The Imam (عليه السلام) said, “Even if he had done wrong to you, you have exceeded against him. Indeed such a behavior is not from my actions, and I do not command My Shias of behaving as such. So seek forgiveness from your lord and never do it again.”

I (the narrator) said, “I seek forgiveness from Allah and will never do it again.”

Hadith 21:

Narrated from Abu Baseer,

"I came to Abu Abd-Allah Imam Sadiq (عليه السلام) and with me was a man from our companions. I said to the Imam, "May I be sacrificed for You, O Son of Prophet of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله) - I become sad and grieve without knowing any reason for that."

Imam (عليه السلام) said, "Indeed that sadness and joy reaches you from Us, because when sadness or joy comes to Us, it comes to you as well. Because We and you are from the light of Allah (عز وجل), and He made Us and Our clay and your clay one."

Hadith 22:

Narrated from Imam al-Ridha (عليه السلام), from His Father Imam Musa ibn Jafar (عليه السلام) who said,

There were a group of the special companions of Imam Sadiq (عليه السلام) sitting with the Imam on a moonlit night.

They said, "O son of the Messenger of Allah (ع), how beautiful is the appearance of this sky and the lights of these stars."

So Imam Sadiq (عليه السلام) said, "You are saying this, while the four administrators, Jibraeel, Mikaeel, Israfeel, and the Angel of Death are looking at the earth and they see you and your brothers in the earth, and your light shining to the heavens and to them is more beautiful than the lights of these stars. And they say the same thing as you just said - How good is the light of these believers!"
