41: Fussilat

Chapter: 41, Verse. 6-7 - Shirk in Imamah

Narrated by Aban bin Taghlib that Abu Abd-Allah Imam Sadiq (عليه السلام) said to me,

"O Aban, do you think that Allah (عز وجل) has asked the Polytheists (mushrikeen) for alms (zakat) of their wealth while they are doing shirk; when He says, "And Woe be upon the Polytheists (mushrikeen) who do not give alms (zakat) and do not believe in the hereafter" (41:6-7)

I said, "How is that, May I be sacrificed for you, explain it to me."

Imam (عليه السلام) said, "Woe upon the Polytheists (mushrikeen), those who associate others with the first Imam (referring to Imam Ali عليه السلام) and they are those who deny the other Imam's (عليهم السلام).

O Aban, Indeed, Allah (عز وجل) calls the servants towards belief, then when they believe in Allah (عز وجل) and His Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله) then the obligations are obligated upon them."

Chapter: 41, Verse. 29 - The 2 who led others astray

Narrated from Abu Abdillah Imam Sadiq (as) regarding the saying of Allah, "Our Lord! show us those 2 who led us astray from among the jinn and the men that we may trample them under our feet so that they may be of the lowest." (41:29)

Imam (as) said, "It refers to those 2 (Abu Bakr & Umar) and Fulan (referring to Umar?) was the devil (Satan)"

[Source: al-Kafi, Vol. 8, Pg. 334, Hadith. 522]

Regarding this narration, Allamah Majlisi says,

"The words of the Imam, 'those 2' refer to Abu Bakr and Umar and what is intended by 'Fulan' is Umar i.e. the jinn mentioned in the verse is Umar, rather umar was named as such because he was a Satan or he was connected to Satan because he was born of fornication (zina) or because he was similar to satan in cheating & betrayal/deception and it is also possible that this could mean Abu Bakr."

Narrated from Abu Abdillah Imam Sadiq (as) regarding the saying of Allah, "Our Lord! show us those 2 who led us astray from among the jinn and the men that we may trample them under our feet so that they may be of the lowest." (41:29)

Imam (as) said, "O Sawrah (the narrator), By Allah, it refers to those 2 (Abu Bakr & Umar), the Imam repeated this 3 times. By Allah, O Sawrah, We are the Treasurers of the Knowledge of Allah in the sky and We are the Treasurers of the Knowledge of Allah in the earth"

Part of long hadith quoted in the book Kamil al-Ziyarat:

Imam Sadiq (as) says, "The first judgment will be between Mohsin Ibne Ali (as) and his killer (referring to Umar). Then he will be brought forth along with Qunfudh and they will be lashed with whips of fire. The whips will be such that if one of them hits the oceans, they will boil from the east to the west and if (even one whip) touches the mountains, they will all melt and turn to ash."

Then Amirul Momineen (a.s.) will kneel before Allah so that Allah judges between him and the fourth usurper – Muawiyah. Then they (Umar, Qunfudh and Muawiyah) will be thrown in a well (of fire) which will be covered so no one can see them and they will not be able to see anyone.

So those who followed them will say, "Our Lord! show us those 2 who led us astray from among the jinn and the men that we may trample them under our feet so that they may be of the lowest." (41:29)
