Selections from Ziyarat of Imam Husain (as)

Hadith 1 - Imam Husain (ع) the refuge for those who visit His grave:

From a Ziyarat of Imam Husain (ع) as narrated from Imam Sadiq (ع):

"O my master, I have come to your Ziyarat carrying my sins, I seek closeness to my Lord by coming to You and by my crying, my lamenting, my sorrow, my grief, and my weeping over You. And (have come to You) carrying that about which I am afraid for myself, hoping that You will be for me a barrier, a support,  a cave, a refuge, an intercessor (Shafi) and protection from the fire tomorrow."

"I am one of your followers who has enmity with your enemies and loves your friends. And I shall live, die, and be resurrected upon this belief In-sha-Allah. Indeed, I have carried my body, and I have bid farewell to my family and have traveled a long distance, I hope for salvation by being near to You. I hope to return in your time and I hope to look at you and your positions in heaven of my Lord tomorrow along with your forefathers."

Hadith 2 - Cursing Abu Bakr and Umar during Ziyarah:

Imam Sadiq (as) said,

"Recite the following when you come to the grave of al-Husain bin Ali (ع), and you may also recite the same besides the graves of all Imams (ع)"

(Only the required portion is quoted here)

"O Allah, curse the two (Abu Bakr and Umar) who changed Your blessings, disobeyed Your Book, denied Your signs, and accused Your Messenger. Stuff their graves and stomachs with fire and prepare a painful chastisement for them. O' Allah, raise the two of them and their associates & their followers blind in Hell. And on Judgment Day raise the two of them and their associates & their followers on their faces, blind and dumb and deaf; their abode is hell; whenever it becomes diminished We will increase to their burning. O Allah, do not make this the last time I come to the Ziyarat of the grave of the son of Your Prophet. Raise him in the praised status where You support Your religion with him and kill Your enemies through him. Indeed You promised this to him and You are the Lord who does not fail His promise."

From the Ziyarat of Imam Husain (ع) as taught by Imam Sadiq (ع):

"O Allah, curse al-Jibt and al-Taghoot (referring to Abu Bakr & Umar) and curse their adherents (shia) and their followers"

Hadith 3 - Crying over Imam Husain (ع):

Narrated from Imam Sadiq (ع), part of a lengthy hadith on the method of Ziyarat of Imam Husain (ع):

"May my parents be sacrificed on you, O Abu Abdullah ع. I have traveled to you although my home is far, I have shed tears on you, and my sorrow, my lamentation, my wailing, my sighing, and my weeping was over you. I came to you and am hiding my great sins through you. I have come to you as a visitor and a guest whose back has become heavy due to sins. May my parents be sacrificed on you, O my master. I have cried over you, O best of Allah’s creation and the son of the best of Allah’s creation and I should be crying over you since the heavens, the earths, the mountains, and the seas have cried over you. Therefore, what can be my excuse for not crying over you while the beloved of my Lord and the Imams have cried over you and everyone below Sidratul Muntaha to the earth has cried impatiently over you."

Hadith 4 - Jihad only with Imam:

From the Ziyarat of Imam Husain (ع) as taught by Imam Sadiq (ع):

"I bear witness that Jihad along with You is (truly) Jihad, and that Truth is with You and to you, that You are the people of truth and its source; and that the inheritance of Prophethood is with You and Your family. I bear witness that You are truthful near Allah and You are His Proof on His creation. I bear witness that Your call is truth, and every other caller other than You is false (Batil) & invalid. And I bear witness that Allah is the manifest truth."

Hadith 6 - From the House of the Imams:

From a Ziyarat of Imam Husain (عليه السلام) as taught by Imam Sadiq (عليه السلام):

"The will of Allah regarding His destined (Qadr) affairs descends to You and are issued from Your houses, and the same is true for all that is classified as being from rulings for servants of Allah."

Hadith 7:

From a Ziyarat of Imam Husain (عليه السلام) as narrated from Imam Sadiq (عليه السلام):

"At Your Service (Labbaik), O Caller from/to Allah, Here I am - Even though my body did not respond to Your call (in Karbala), but then my heart, my hair (awareness), my flesh, my thoughts, and my desires have all answered Your call upon submission (tasleem) to the successor of the Prophet - the Messenger (ص), the chosen Grandson, the knowledgeable guide, the entrusted guardian, and the oppressed & wronged."

Hadith 8:

Part of long narration from Imam Sadiq (عليه السلام) teaching a Ziyarah of Imam Husain (عليه السلام):

"Salam upon You, O'Wali of Allah. Salam upon You, O' Aba Abdillah (عليه السلام). You are my protection from the chastisement. This is the time for me to leave You although I am not abandoning you, And I am not replacing You with anyone other than You. And I am not giving preference to someone else over you. And have not lost the desire to be near you."

"I took pains upon (sacrifised) myself in calamities/misfortunes (in going for ziyarat) and left my family and homeland. Therefore be there for me on the day of my need, poverty, and neediness, the day when my parents, my children, my intimate friends, my companions, and my relatives will not help me."
