علي بن محمد، عن سهل بن زياد، عن محمد بن الوليد شباب الصيرفي، عن يونس بن رباط قال: دخلت أنا وكامل التمار على أبي عبد الله عليه السلام فقال له كامل: جعلت فداك حديث رواه فلان؟ فقال: أذكره، فقال: حدثني أن النبي صلى الله عليه وآله حدث عليا عليه السلام بألف باب يوم توفي رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله، كل باب يفتح ألف باب، فذلك ألف ألف باب، فقال: لقد كان ذلك، قلت: جعلت فداك فظهر ذلك لشيعتكم ومواليكم؟ فقال: يا كامل باب أو بابان فقلت [له] جعلت فداك فما يروى من فضلكم من ألف ألف باب إلا باب أو بابان؟ قال: وما عسيتم أن ترووا من فضلنا، ما تروون من فضلنا إلا ألفا غير معطوفة

Narrated that Kamil al-Tammar said to Imam Sadiq (عليه السلام), "May I be sacrificed upon You, there is a hadith narrated by so and so."

The Imam said, "Mention it."

He (the narrator) said, "He narrated to me that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله) told Ali (عليه السلام) a thousand doors/chapters on the day the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله) passed away. Each of those doors opens a thousand chapters, so that is a thousand thousand (a million) chapters."

The Imam said, "That is how it is."

He (the narrator) said, "May I be sacrificed for you. And all those chapters have become manifest/clear to your followers and those who love you."

The Imam said, "O Kamil, one or two chapters only."

I (the narrator) said, "May I be sacrificed for you. So of the million chapters, nothing is narrated to Us of your merits/virtues/excellence (Fadhl) except one or two chapters?"

The Imam said, "And what could you possibly narrate of Our merits (fadhl). You narrate nothing of our merits/virtues (Fadhl) except a partial/incomplete letter."
