Imam's (as) control over life and death

"If there were a Qur'an with which mountains were moved, or the earth were cloven asunder, or the dead were made to speak, (this would be the one!)" [13:31]

So this verse makes it very clear that Qur'an can make the mountains move and even make the dead to speak. And its very well known that as per the narrations, Imam's (as) have complete knowledge of the Quran and hence they can also give life to the dead, now lets read the below narration.

Narrated from Ali ibn Yaqteen who said,

"Harun al-Rashid called for a man to invalidate the authority of Abu al-Hasan Musa ibn Jafar (عليه السلام), to refute him and to embarrass him in the masjid (gathering). So he appointed a exorcist/magician person for this task.

When the food was placed, the magician put a spell on the bread. So whenever Abu al-Hasan (عليه السلام) went to take a loaf of bread, it would fly away from Him, and upon this Harun was filled with excitement and laughter.

It was not long before Abu al-Hasan (عليه السلام) raised His head towards the image of a lion on the curtain and said to it, "O Lion! Seize this enemy of Allah"

He (the narrator) said, "The image of the lion jumped out into the mightiest of lions and killed & ate the magician.

Then Harun and his men fell down unconscious upon their faces – their minds were blown away due to fear of what they had seen. When they woke up from that, Abu al-Hasan (عليه السلام), "I ask You by my right upon Uou to ask the image (of the lion) to return that man."

The Imam (عليه السلام) said, "If the staff of Musa (عليه السلام) had returned what it had swallowed from the ropes of the people, then this picture will also return what it swallowed of this man."

Narrated from Abu Basir who said,

I came to Abu Jafar Imam Baqir (عليه السلام) and asked him, "Are you the heirs (waris) of the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله)?"

The Imam (عليه السلام) said, "Yes"

I (the narrator) then asked, "Was the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله) the heir of the prophets and knew all that they knew?"

The Imam (عليه السلام) said, "Yes"

I (the narrator) then asked, "Do You have the ability to bring the dead back to life and to cure the blind & the leper?"

The Imam (عليه السلام) said, "Yes, by the permission of Allah."

Then the Imam (عليه السلام) said to me, "O Abu Muhammad, come close to me",  I went closer to him and the Imam rubbed upon my face and my eyes, so I was able to see the sun, the skies, the earth, the houses and all things in the town.

The Imam (عليه السلام) then said to me, "Do you wish to stay this way (i.e. be able to see) and will have what others have and you will be responsible for whatever they will be held responsible on the Day of Judgment or do you wish to live as before and will have paradise purely?"

I (the narrator) said, "I would like to live as I lived before.",  The Imam then rubbed my eyes and I become as before."

The narrator has said that he told it to ibn Abi Umayr who said, "I testify that this is true just as the day is true."

Hadith 3:

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Salama ibn al-Khattab from ‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Qasim from ‘Isa Shalqan who has said the following.

"I heard abu ‘Abd Allah (as)  say, ‘Amir al-Mu’minin Ali (as)  had maternal uncles in the tribe of descendant of Makhdhum and a young man from them came to him (Amir al-Mu’minin Ali and said, "Uncle, my brother has died and I am very sad because of his death." The narrator has said that he (Amir al-Mu’minin Ali (as) ) asked him, "Do you want to see him?" He said, "Yes, I want to see him." He said, "Show me his grave." The narrator has said that he (Amir al-Mu’minin Ali (as)  came out with him with the gown of the Messenger of Allah on him. When he reach the grave site he moved his lips and knocked his grave with his foot and he came out of his grave speaking in Persian language. Amir al-Mu’minin Ali (as) asked, "Did you not die as an Arab man?" He said, " Yes, but we died in the tradition of so and so son of so and so then our language changed."

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Mughira who has said the following.

"The pious servant of Allah [Imam Musa Kazim (as)] passed in Mina by a woman who was weeping and her children around her also were weeping because her cow was dead. He went close to her and asked, "What has caused you to weep O slave of Allah?" She said, "O servant of Allah, we have orphan children. Our cow that was the means for our living has died and we are left without any means of living."

He said, "Will you be happy if I will bring your cow back to life?"

She was just inspired to say, "Yes, O servant of Allah I will be very happy."

He stepped aside and said two Rak‘at prayers. He then raised his hands and gently moved his lips. He then stood up and called the cow to get up. He pushed the cow with his foot or a staff and she was up straight and standing. When the woman looked at the cow she cried and said, "Jesus, son of Mary, I swear by the Lord of the Ka‘ba (he is Jesus)." Many people gathered around and he disappeared among them and went."

Following the principle of authentication of Hadeees [Read Here], the Above 2 narrations are also authenticated by verification from the following verse of the Holy Quran:

"And (appoint him) a messenger to the Children of Israel, (with this message): "'I have come to you, with a Sign from your Lord, in that I make for you out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, and breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by Allah's leave: And I heal those born blind, and the lepers, and I quicken the dead, by Allah's leave; and I declare to you what ye eat, and what ye store in your houses. Surely therein is a Sign for you if ye did believe" [Quran 3:49]
