64: Al-Taghaabun

Chapter: 64, Verse: 2

"It is He Who has created you; and of you are some that are Unbelievers, and some that are Believers: and Allah sees well all that you do" (64:2)

Muhammad bin Yahya, from Ahmad bin Muhammad, from Ibn Mahboob, from Al-Husain bin Naeem Al-Sahhaf who said:

I asked Aba Abd-Allah Imam Sadiq (عليه السلام) about the saying of Allah (عز وجل) "And of you are some that are Unbelievers, and some that are Believers." (64:2)

Imam (عليه السلام) said, "Allah (عز وجل) knew their faith (Eeman) due to Our Wilayat and knew their disbelief (Kufr) due to it (Our Wilayat) on the day He took the covenant from them in the loins of Adam (عليه السلام) while they were particles."

And I (narrator) asked Him about the saying of Allah (عز وجل), "Obey Allah and the Messenger, but if you turn away, know that the only duty of Our Messenger is to clearly preach." (64:12)

Imam (عليه السلام) said, "By Allah (عز وجل)! None have been destroyed who were before you and none will be destroyed up-to the rising of Our Qaim (عليه السلام) but due to abandoning/leaving Our Mastership (Wilayat) and denying/rejecting Our rights. And the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله) did not leave from the world until He had obligated our rights upon the necks of the Muslim community (Ummah). And Allah (عز وجل) guides whom He wishes towards the right path."

Chapter: 64, Verse: 8 - The light that Allah sent down

Narrated from Abu Khalid al-Kabuli who has said the following,

"I asked Abu Jafar Imam Baqir (عليه السلام) about the meaning of the words of Allah (عز وجل), "believe in Allah and His Messenger and the Light (Noor) which We have sent down" (64:8)

Imam (عليه السلام) said, "O Abu Khalid, By Allah, The Light (noor) is the Imams from the family of the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله) up to the Day of judgment. And they, by Allah, are the light of Allah whom He sent down. And they, by Allah, are the light of Allah in the heavens and in the earth."

"O Abu Khalid, by Allah, the light of the Imam in the hearts of the believers is brighter than the shining sun during the day. They, by Allah, give light to the hearts of the believers and Allah (عز وجل), may block such light from reaching the hearts of whoever He may will, thus their hearts remain dark."

"O Abu Khalid, a servant does not love Us and befriend Us until Allah purifies their heart, and Allah does not purify the heart of a servant until they submit to Us and make peace with Us. And when they make peace with Us, Allah will protect them from severe judgment and save them from the terror of the Day of Resurrection."
