In 308 Hijri, a letter was sent to Imam al Mehdi (atfs) containing questions regarding various issues.

[One question was regarding the Waqf - which means to designate or set aside something for someone. Below is the question and the answer recieved from Imam al Mehdi (atfs)]

وعن الوقف الذي لا يجوز بيعه

فأجاب عليه السلام إذا كان الوقف على إمام المسلمين فلا يجوز بيعه

Question: And about the Waqf selling of which is not permissible.

Answer: If the Waqf is done to Imam of the Muslimeen, then selling it is not permissible.
