Imam Ali (as) on the 12th Imam (atfs)

Hadith 1:

In a long and detailed tradition Imam Ali (عليه السلام) describes the incidents that takes place after the passing away of the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله) to the martyrdom of Imam Husain (عليه السلام) and describes the condition of the Muslim Umma during the time of disappearance of the 12th Imam (عجل الله تعالى فرجه)


أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ابْنُ عُقْدَةَ الْكُوفِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الدِّينَوَرِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْكُوفِيُّ عَنْ عَمِيرَةَ بِنْتِ أَوْسٍ قَالَتْ حَدَّثَنِي جَدِّي الْحُصَيْنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعْدٍ عَنْ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ع‌ أَنَّهُ قَالَ يَوْماً لِحُذَيْفَةَ بْنِ الْيَمَانِ يَا حُذَيْفَةُ لَا تُحَدِّثِ النَّاسَ بِمَا لَا يَعْلَمُونَ فَيَطْغَوْا وَ يَكْفُرُوا إِنَّ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ صَعْباً شَدِيداً مَحْمِلُهُ لَوْ حَمَّلْتَهُ الْجِبَالَ عَجَزَتْ عَنْ حَمْلِهِ إِنَّ عِلْمَنَا أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ سَيُنْكَرُ وَ يُبْطَلُ وَ تُقْتَلُ رُوَاتُهُ وَ يُسَاءُ إِلَى مَنْ يَتْلُوهُ بَغْياً وَ حَسَداً لِمَا فَضَّلَ اللَّهُ بِهِ عِتْرَةَ الْوَصِيِّ وَصِيِّ النَّبِيِّ ص يَا ابْنَ الْيَمَانِ إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ص تَفَلَ فِي فَمِي وَ أَمَرَّ يَدَهُ عَلَى صَدْرِي وَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ أَعْطِ خَلِيفَتِي وَ وَصِيِّي وَ قَاضِيَ دَيْنِي وَ مُنْجِزَ وَعْدِي وَ أَمَانَتِي وَ وَلِيِّي‌ وَ نَاصِرِي عَلَى عَدُوِّكَ وَ عَدُوِّي وَ مُفَرِّجَ الْكَرْبِ عَنْ وَجْهِي مَا أَعْطَيْتَ آدَمَ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ وَ مَا أَعْطَيْتَ نُوحاً مِنَ الْحِلْمِ وَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مِنَ الْعِتْرَةِ الطَّيِّبَةِ وَ السَّمَاحَةِ وَ مَا أَعْطَيْتَ أَيُّوبَ مِنَ الصَّبْرِ عِنْدَ الْبَلَاءِ وَ مَا أَعْطَيْتَ دَاوُدَ مِنَ الشِدَّةِ عِنْدَ مُنَازَلَةِ الْأَقْرَانِ وَ مَا أَعْطَيْتَ سُلَيْمَانَ مِنَ الْفَهْمِ اللَّهُمَّ لَا تُخْفِ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ شَيْئاً مِنَ الدُّنْيَا حَتَّى تَجْعَلَهَا كُلَّهَا بَيْنَ عَيْنَيْهِ مِثْلَ الْمَائِدَةِ الصَّغِيرَةِ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ اللَّهُمَّ أَعْطِهِ جَلَادَةَ مُوسَى وَ اجْعَلْ فِي نَسْلِهِ شَبِيهَ عِيسَى ع اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ خَلِيفَتِي عَلَيْهِ وَ عَلَى عِتْرَتِهِ وَ ذُرِّيَّتِهِ الطَّيِّبَةِ الْمُطَهَّرَةِ الَّتِي أَذْهَبْتَ عَنْهَا الرِّجْسَ والنِّجْسَ وَ صَرَفْتَ عَنْهَا مُلَامَسَةَ الشَّيَاطِينِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ بَغَتْ قُرَيْشٌ عَلَيْهِ وَ قَدَّمَتْ غَيْرَهُ عَلَيْهِ فَاجْعَلْهُ بِمَنْزِلَةِ هَارُونَ مِنْ مُوسَى إِذْ غَابَ عَنْهُ مُوسَى ثُمَّ قَالَ لِي يَا عَلِيُّ كَمْ فِي وُلْدِكَ مِنْ وَلَدٍ فَاضِلٍ يُقْتَلُ وَ النَّاسُ قِيَامٌ يَنْظُرُونَ لَا يُغَيِّرُونَ فَقَبُحَتْ أُمَّةٌ تَرَى أَوْلَادَ نَبِيِّهَا يُقْتَلُونَ ظُلْماً وَ هُمْ لَا يُغَيِّرُونَ‌ إِنَّ الْقَاتِلَ وَ الْآمِرَ وَ الشَّاهِدَ الَّذِي لَا يُغَيِّرُ كُلُّهُمْ فِي الْإِثْمِ وَ اللِّعَانِ سَوَاءٌ مُشْتَرِكُونَ يَا ابْنَ الْيَمَانِ إِنَّ قُرَيْشاً لَا تَنْشَرِحُ صُدُورُهَا وَ لَا تَرْضَى قُلُوبُهَا وَ لَا تَجْرِي أَلْسِنَتُهَا بِبَيْعَةِ عَلِيٍّ وَ مُوَالاتِهِ إِلَّا عَلَى الْكُرْهِ وَ الْعَمَى وَ الصَّغَارِ يَا ابْنُ الْيَمَانِ سَتُبَايِعُ قُرَيْشٌ عَلِيّاً ثُمَّ تَنْكُثُ عَلَيْهِ وَ تُحَارِبُهُ وَ تُنَاضِلُهُ وَ تَرْمِيهِ بِالْعَظَائِمِ وَ بَعْدَ عَلِيٍّ يَلِي الْحَسَنُ وَ سَيُنْكَثُ عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ يَلِي الْحُسَيْنُ فَتَقْتُلُهُ أُمَّةُ جَدِّهِ فَلُعِنَتْ أُمَّةٌ تَقْتُلُ ابْنَ بِنْتِ نَبِيِّهَا وَ لَا تَعِزُّ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ وَ لُعِنَ الْقَائِدُ لَهَا وَ الْمُرَتِّبُ لِفَاسِقِهَا فَوَ الَّذِي نَفْسُ عَلِيٍّ بِيَدِهِ لَا تَزَالُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةُ بَعْدَ قَتْلِ الْحُسَيْنِ ابْنِي فِي ضَلَالٍ وَ ظُلْمٍ وَ عَسْفٍ وَ جَوْرٍ وَ اخْتِلَافٍ فِي الدِّينِ وَ تَغْيِيرٍ وَ تَبْدِيلٍ لِمَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ فِي كِتَابِهِ وَ إِظْهَارِ الْبِدَعِ وَ إِبْطَالِ السُّنَنِ وَ اخْتِلَالٍ وَ قِيَاسِ مُشْتَبِهَاتٍ وَ تَرْكِ مُحْكَمَاتٍ حَتَّى تَنْسَلِخَ مِنَ الْإِسْلَامِ وَ تَدْخُلَ فِي الْعَمَى وَ التَّلَدُّدِ وَ التَّسَكُّعِ‌ مَا لَكِ يَا بَنِي أُمَيَّةَ لَا هُدِيتِ يَا بَنِي أُمَيَّةَ وَ مَا لَكِ يَا بَنِي الْعَبَّاسِ لَكِ الْإِتْعَاسُ فَمَا فِي بَنِي أُمَيَّةَ إِلَّا ظَالِمٌ وَ لَا فِي بَنِي الْعَبَّاسِ إِلَّا مُعْتَدٍ مُتَمَرِّدٌ عَلَى اللَّهِ بِالْمَعَاصِي قَتَّالٌ لِوَلَدِي هَتَّاكٌ لِسِتْرِي وَ حُرْمَتِي فَلَا تَزَالُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةُ جَبَّارِينَ يَتَكَالَبُونَ عَلَى حَرَامِ الدُّنْيَا مُنْغَمِسِينَ فِي بِحَارِ الْهَلَكَاتِ وَ فِي أَوْدِيَةِ الدِّمَاءِ حَتَّى إِذَا غَابَ الْمُتَغَيِّبُ مِنْ وُلْدِي عَنْ عُيُونِ النَّاسِ وَ مَاجَ النَّاسُ بِفَقْدِهِ أَوْ بِقَتْلِهِ أَوْ بِمَوْتِهِ اطَّلَعَتِ الْفِتْنَةُ وَ نَزَلَتِ الْبَلِيَّةُ وَ الْتَحَمَتْ الْعَصَبِيَّةُ وَغَلَا النَّاسُ فِي دِينِهِمْ وَ أَجْمَعُوا عَلَى أَنَّ الْحُجَّةَ ذَاهِبَةٌ وَ الْإِمَامَةَ بَاطِلَةٌ وَ يَحُجُّ حَجِيجُ النَّاسِ فِي تِلْكَ السَّنَةِ مِنْ شِيعَةِ عَلِيٍّ وَ نَوَاصِبِهِ‌ لِلتَّحَسُّسِ وَ التَّجَسُّسِ عَنْ خَلَفِ الْخَلَفِ‌ فَلَا يُرَى لَهُ أَثَرٌ وَ لَا يُعْرَفُ لَهُ خَبَرٌ وَ لَا خَلَفٌ فَعِنْدَ ذَلِكَ سُبَّتْ شِيعَةُ عَلِيٍّ سَبَّهَا أَعْدَاؤُهَا وَ ظَهَرَتْ عَلَيْهَا الْأَشْرَارُ وَ الْفُسَّاقُ بِاحْتِجَاجِهَا حَتَّى إِذَا بَقِيَتِ الْأُمَّةُ حَيَارَى وَ تَدَلَّهَتْ‌ وَ أَكْثَرَتْ فِي قَوْلِهَا إِنَّ الْحُجَّةَ هَالِكَةٌ وَ الْإِمَامَةَ بَاطِلَةٌ فَوَ رَبِّ عَلِيٍّ إِنَّ حُجَّتَهَا عَلَيْهَا قَائِمَةٌ مَاشِيَةٌ فِي طُرُقِهَا دَاخِلَةٌ فِي دُورِهَا وَ قُصُورِهَا جَوَّالَةٌ فِي شَرْقِ هَذِهِ الْأَرْضِ وَ غَرْبِهَا تَسْمَعُ الْكَلَامَ وَ تُسَلِّمَ عَلَى الْجَمَاعَةِ تَرَى وَ لَا تُرَى إِلَى الْوَقْتِ وَ الْوَعْدِ وَ نِدَاءِ الْمُنَادِي مِنَ السَّمَاءِ أَلَا ذَلِكَ يَوْمٌ فِيهِ سُرُورُ وُلْدِ عَلِيٍّ وَ شِيعَتِهِ


Narrated that Amirul Momineen Ali (عليه السلام) one day had said to Huzayfa bin al-Yaman:

"O Huzayfa, do not tell people of what they do not know (understand) lest they become transgress & disbelieve. Some of knowledge is difficult to carry, and if the mountains carried it, they would not be able to carry it. Our knowledge, of the AhlulBayt (عليهم السلام), will be denied and invalidated, its narrators will be killed and whoever mentions something of it, will be harmed. All that is because of envy for what Allah has favored the progeny of the Prophet's guardian (صلى الله عليه وآله).

O bin al-Yaman, the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله) has spit in my mouth, passed his hand over my chest and said: "0 Allah, give my caliph, my guardian, the payer of my debts, the executor of my promises and deposits, My supporter & helper against Your enemy and My enemy and the reliever of grief from my face, (give Him) the knowledge that You have given to Adam, the forbearance (Hilm) that You have given to Noah, the magnanimity and good offspring that you have given to Abraham, the patience in face of calamities that You have given to Ayyoob, the strength that You have given to David when fighting with opponents and the understanding (Fahm) that You have given to Solomon.

O Allah do not hide anything of this world from Ali (عليه السلام) until You make it all in His eyes like a small feast in front of Him. O Allah, give him the endurance/patience of Moses and make in his progeny someone similar to Isa.

O Allah, You are trustee after me upon Him and His pure progeny, whom You have kept uncleanness away from and whom you have turned the influence of the Satan away from. O Allah, if Quraysh oppress Him and prefer others to him, then make him as was Haroon to Musa when Musa was away."

Then the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله) said to me: "O Ali (عليه السلام), many great men of your descendants will be killed while the people will be seeing but will not try to do anything. Shame on the community looking at the Progeny of its Prophet being killed unjustly without trying to change anything. The killer, the one who has ordered of killing, the one who saw it and did not change the situation all of them are equal participants in the sin and all are equally cursed."

O ibn al-Yaman, Indeed the Quraysh, their hearts will not be open nor will their hearts be satisfied nor will their tongues be do Bayah and accept Mastership of Ali (عليه السلام) but with dislike, blindness and considering it lowly.

O ibn al-Yaman, Quraysh will pledge allegiance (Bayah) to Ali (عليه السلام), then will break it, will fight Him, will dispute with Him, and will accuse Him of great things. Then after Ali (عليه السلام) al-Hasan (عليه السلام) comes and His rights will be violated & then comes al-Husain (عليه السلام), who will be killed by the nation of His Grandfather. Cursed is a nation that kills the son of its Prophet's Daughter, cursed is the leader and the one who arranged the offenders.”

By Him, in Whose hand the soul of Ali (عليه السلام) is, this umma, after killing my son al-Husain (عليه السلام), will remain in deviation, darkness, tyranny, oppression, disagreement in religion, changing & exchanging what Allah has revealed in His Book, displaying heresies (Bidah), invalidating the Sunnah, disorder, confusing personal analogies (Qiyas) and leaving the clear verses (Muhkamat) until they get detached from Islam and enter into blindness, confusion and misguidance.

What is the matter with you O Bani Umayyah! May you not be guided! What is the matter with you O Bani Abbas! May you be in misery! There is none in Bani Umayyah but oppressors and there is none in Bani Abbas except a rebellious aggressor against Allah through disobedience, those who will kill My descendants and tear apart My cover & My honor.

The oppressive nation (Ummah) will continue to remain rushing madly upon the impermissible pleasures of this life and immersing in seas of destruction and in valleys of bloods until my son (i.e., Imam al-Mahdi عليه السلام) disappears (by the will of Allah) from the sights of people and the people become so restless whether he is lost, killed or is dead. Then tribulations (Fitnah) will rise, calamities befall, people exaggerate in their religion and agree upon that the authority (al-Hujjah) has gone and the Imamate has been invalidated.

In that year the pilgrims, the Shia of Ali (عليه السلام) and His enemies, will go to hajj just to spy on the existence of the guardian (Hujjah) and to seek any information about him but no trace of Him is seen nor will any news be known about him. There will be no guardian and then the Shia of Ali will be abused (Sabb) by their enemies and will be overcome by the evil and bad people with their protest until the umma becomes so confused and begins to say extensively that al-Hujjah has perished, and the Imamate has been invalidated (Batil). But By the Lord of Ali, their authority (al-Hujjah) will remain over the umma walking in its roads, entering into its houses and palaces, roving in the east and in the west, hearing the speech, greeting groups of people and seeing without being seen until the time, the promise and the call from the heaven: Truly that will be day of joy for the descendants of Ali (عليه السلام) and His Shia."

Hadith 2:

حدثنا محمد بن همام قال: حدثنا جعفر بن محمد بن مالك قال: حدثنا إسحاق بن سنان، قال: حدثنا عبيد بن خارجة، عن علي بن عثمان، عن فرات بن أحنف، عن أبي عبد الله جعفر بن محمد، عن آبائه ، قال زاد الفراتُ على عهد أمير المؤمنين فركب هو وابناه الحسن والحسين فمرّ بثقيف، فقالوا قد جاء عليٌّ يرد الماء. فقال عليّ: أما والله لأقتَلنَّ أنا وابناي هذان وليبعثُنّ الله رجلاً من ولدي في آخر الزمان يطالب بدمائنا، وليغيّبنّ عنهم، تمييزاً لأهل الضلالة حتىّ يقول الجاهل: ما للهِ في آل محمد من حاجة.

Narrated that Abu Abdullah as-Sadiq (عليه السلام) had narrated from his Fathers:

"Once the Euphrates had overflowed during the time of Imam Ali (عليه السلام). So He rode along with his sons al-Hasan (عليه السلام) and al-Husain (عليه السلام). On their way, they passed by (the tribe of) Thaqeef, who said: "Ali (عليه السلام) has come to drive water back!"

Imam Ali (عليه السلام) said:

"By Allah, I and both of my sons will be killed but Allah will send a man from My descendants at the end of the time (Aakhir al-Zaman) revenging our bloods. He will disappear so that the deviated people are are separated (distinguished) until the ignorant will say: Allah has nothing to do with (no need of) Aal-e-Muhammad (عليهم السلام)."
